Oscillation appearance in gas flames
The problem with a large gas burner, operating with natural gas was the emission of considerable noise which I had to eradicate.
Initially, this was erroneous thought to be caused by the gas pressure regulator or governor, triggering the flames to vibrate. The search for a remedy was very difficult. An intensive effort was undertaken, to solve the problem.
The noise was so loud that it was similar to the passing of an aeroplane or truck.
Eventually, I discovered that the design of the air inlet to the burner caused oscillation of the gas flames by changing the amount of air for the burner. Simultaneously I was ensuring the absence of carbon monoxide.
Surprisingly this noise was sometimes caused by a passing truck, which was, in my experience, remarkably, but I managed to solve this problem.
There was also a problem when the flame take off away from the burner with the danger of the presence of carbon monoxide. This, of course, is life threatening but I solved this problem.
Oscillation in flames are not so rare. If they appear the problem is often not easy to resolve.
