Leaking of gas pipes

In this instance I was asked to help and I discovered a dangerous and a life threatening situation which fortunately did not lead to any loss of life. The gas pipe under the pavement was leaking gas which could not escape because of the snow and ice on the surface of the streat pavement. The consequence was the build-up of the gas below the pavement which led to an huge explosion and the collapse of an entire four story block of flats.
I was consulted with other experts and together we agreed that we remove the defective gas pipe of cast iron and replace it and many others with less porous pipes or alternatively insert into the pipe a patented plastic material and thus eliminating far-reaching all the leaks.
Absolute tightness is not possible.
